2008 was the year that Ford changed the head design of these motors due to the old SP515 Spark plugs issue. Early 2008 models use the SP546 (SP515 is the old part number) spark plugs, while later model 2008 models used a different type of spark plug. Both the spark plugs and ignition coil boots were updated for the head design change. To identify the proper spark plugs, take a look at the coil boots. They should be black in color, not brown. Also, the top of the coil part numbers should start with: 3L.

This is a set of 8 OEM Motorcraft SP546 spark plugs for your vehicle. This part SP546 supercedes part number SP515. This listing is for the SP546 spark plugs. We no longer carry SP515. The SP515 spark plugs were known to break off inside the cylinder head prompting Ford/Motorcraft to revise the design. This is an original equipment item.
