These 2.4L Hyundai and Kia vehicles only require 2 ignition coils. They are a waste spark style ignition coil, meaning that the two coils carry the additional spark to the other 2 cylinders. Ignition coils are an important component for your 2.4L Hyundai or Kia. The ignition coils convert the 12v from your battery to tens of thousands of volts, and supplies that power to the spark plug. Common misfire codes will be P0301, P0302, P0303, and P0304. Since one ignition coil controls more than one cylinder, you may see two misfire codes at once. Make sure to check all grounds on your vehicle before you install new ignition coils. Old or bad grounds can shorten the life of new ignition coils. Also, if you change your spark plugs as well, make sure your spark plugs are gapped properly to 0.044 by using a gapping tool, or the spark plugs are pre-gapped at 0.044.
