One Important Thing To Know Before Changing Your Maxima's Ignition Coil Packs

The 2005 Maxima 3.5L V6 had a common issue with the main ground cable breaking. This main ground connect from the negative terminal on the battery to the transmission. Many owners had reported the cable breaking and causing all sorts of electrical issues, specifically with the ignition coils, and the ECU/ECM (main computer). If there is no main ground, the electricity can literally fry the ECM, and/or the ignition coils. A very tell tale sign of a bad ground is a scorched ignition coil. When ignition coils fail, they very rarely melt unless there is another issue with the electrical system in your Nissan. The ignition coils will literally melt, or appear scorched or blistered if the main ground cable is damaged. When you see this, do not replace the ignition coils until the ground is connected and solid. If the ground cable appears to be corroded and/or rusted at the connections, replace it. Do not wait until it breaks, because it will immediately cause damage. Bad engine mounts can allow the engine to move too much contributing to a ground cable breaking as well, so make sure you check your engine mounts. Ensuring your grounds, engine mounts, and ECM/ECU are all good before replacing the ignition coils, otherwise you will be purchasing the ignition coils twice and doing the job twice.
