2005 Ford Crown Victoria Ignition Coil

2005 Ford Crown Victoria Ignition Coils

If your 2005 Ford Crown Victoria is misfiring, and giving you a code P0301 through P0308, you will most likely need to replace the ignition coils. There was only one engine available for this year Crown Victoria, the 2v 4.6L V8. The same goes for the P71 and CVPI police interceptors. They both use the same engine and DG508 ignition coils. The coils for this engine have an angled rubber boot, unlike other ignition coils from other Fords of this year. If you have one of these coil packs fail, it's best to replace all of them at the same time. The only issue with this however is the sheer price of these ignition coils from your local auto part stores. We have full sets of 8 coil packs for the cost of 1 at the local store. We know what you're thinking. "How can you offer ignition coils for my Crown Vic this cheap?". We do this by purchasing several thousand and getting an incredible wholesale deal on these. We then pass the savings directly to you by offering them direct. The coils at the local auto parts store are distributed through warehouses until they reach the auto parts store. Each warehouse marks the price up before they reach the auto parts store, then they get marked up again by the auto parts store. Many times, these parts are marked up 3 times before they reach you. We skip all of this, and sell direct to the consumer.

2005 Ford Crown Victoria Misfire Codes

If an ignition coil in your 2005 Crown Victoria has failed, you will get a check engine light with a code P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, P0305, P0306, or P0307. The last number represents the cylinder of the misfire. If you are not sure which cylinder is which on your 2005 Crown Victoria, Check out our illustration of cylinder numbers for the 2005 Crown Victoria. Remember however that a misfire code does not mean that you have a bad ignition coil. It could be another reason. To find out if it is actually the ignition coil or not, you can swap the ignition coil from the misfiring cylinder to another cylinder. Once you swap the coil, reset the computer and drive your Crown Victoria until the check engine light comes back on. Once it comes back on, rescan the PCM for codes. If the code now shows the misfire is happening on the cylinder that the coil pack was moved to, then you have a bad coil pack for sure. If the misfire code does not move, then you may have another problem with your 2005 Crown Victoria. The reason why we recommend resetting the PCM is because it takes the PCM a little while to see the new misfire. If you swap if over and immediately scan for codes, it may be too early to scan for codes, and you can get a false reading. If you don't have an OBDII scanner, we highly recommend finding one online for under $10. This device can save you hundred of dollars when diagnosing your 2005 Ford Crown Victoria, and you can use it on all 1996 and newer vehicles.
