Finding out if the coils are bad in your 2002 Camry

If you are unsure if the ignition coils is bad, or the problem is fuel related, or a bad sensor, take the coil from the misfiring cylinder, and swap it over to the next cylinder. Reset the computer with your OBDII scanner and see if the misfire follows the coil. If it does, then the coil is bad. If it does not, then the coils may not be the issue. Another easy way to diagnose a bad coil is to disconnect it from the harness while the engine is running. This only works if the coil is completely dead, and the engine has a constant misfire. If the coil is bad, you will notice no change in the engine's idle when it is unplugged. If it is good, your Camry will run rougher, or stall.
