2007 Saab 9-3 Ignition Coils

The  2007 Saab 9-3 is the second generation of the 9-3, and is available with 2 different engines, 2.0L Turbo 4 cylinder and a 2.8L V6. Both engines use individual ignition coils. When one coil goes bad, it's best to replace all of the coils at the same time. This is especially true if they coils are original or over 7 years old. Owners often times experience more than one coil going bad within a couple a months. In some cases it can be days or weeks apart. We have the full set of 4 or 6 ignition coils for your 2007 Saab 9-3. Make sure to select the engine because the 4 cyl and V6 do not share ignition coils. Replacing the ignition coils in your 2007 Saab 9-3 will help your engine run stronger and smoother, get better fuel economy, and pass emissions testing.

Symptoms of a bad ignition coil in your Saab 9-3

Common symptoms of a bad coil are a rough running engine. This is also normally followed by a check engine light. The feeling of a misfire is best described as a chugging or  sputtering feeling. If you have an ignition coil that isn't completely bad, you may feel the engine misfire occasionally, especially under a load. This can happen when accelerating, driving up a hill, etc.  Using an OBDII scanner will help to find where the bad ignition coil is. Codes like P0301 (Cyl # 1 misfire), P0302, P0303, P0304, P0305 and P0306 are common codes found when a coil goes bad. Replacing these are not as hard is you'd think. Check out our how-to section to find out how to so this. If you do not own an OBDII scanner, you can find them online for under $10, or locally for around $60. This tool will help you find out why your check engine light is on without spending hundreds of dollars at the local shop.

Replacing all 4 or all 6 coils in your 2007 Saab 9-3

Mechanics usually recommend to change all of the coils at the same time. This is very true, especially if the coils are over 7 years old. Sometimes old coils can fail within months from each other, which is why it's best to change all of the coils at once. Not only will you save time on having to go back under the hood, but you will save money on the bundle of coils. The bundle is always a lot cheaper than single ignition coils whether you buy locally or online. The 2.0 Saab 9-3 uses 4 ignition coils, and the V6 Saab 9-3 uses 6 ignition coils. These ignition coils are completely independent, allowing the vehicle computer to more flexibility to allow power on demand, and save fuel as well. Each ignition coil is located right above each spark plug. These ignition coils are many times referred to as coil packs, but the proper term is coil on plug, or coil over plug. Many will abbreviate with "COP" or "COPS" (coil on plug system) as well.
