2006 Nissan Murano Ignition Coil

Ignition Coil Replacement For 2006 Nissan Murano

The 2006 Nissan Murano 3.5L V6 engine has six individual ignition coils. There are three on the front bank of the engine and three on the rear bank, underneath the intake manifold. As these ignition coils age, they can fail, causing the engine to misfire. Replacing the full set of 6 ignition coils is generally recommended if one goes bad, and the rest are several years old (especially if they are original). These ignition coils are quite easy to replace, even though three are underneath the intake manifold. We have a full guide on how to do this, and what tool are needed because we care about you saving money, not just on the parts, but on the entire process from diagnostic to repair. We want to empower our customers to feel confident to do this job and save money. If your Murano has a bad ignition coil, the engine will misfire, and the check engine light will come on. You can scan it with an basic OBDII scanner that can be found for under $20. A typical misfire code ranges from P0301, through P0306. The last number represents the cylinder location of the misfire. Random misfire code is P0300. Of course just because you have a misfire doesn't mean you have a bad ignition coil. There are a number of things that can cause a misfire. Once you figure out which cylinder is misfiring, you can swap the ignition coil on the misfiring cylinder over to another cylinder. Reset the ECU to avoid any false readings and drive your 2006 Murano until the check engine light comes on again. It should come back on quickly, if not immediately if you have a solid misfire. If the misfire moves to the cylinder that the coil was moved to, then you know you have a bad ignition coil. Of course you can skip these steps, but remember, our goal is to save you money, and that includes avoiding purchasing parts that your Nissan Murano may not need. If you do misdiagnose the problem, we allow a full 2 months to return the ignition coils, because we're all human and we understand mistakes can be made.

Check Ground Cable in 2006 Nissan Murano Before Replacing Coil Packs

This is a must do before you attempt to replace the coils in your '06 Nisan Murano. This ground cable was known to break causing all sorts of electrical issues, making the owners believe the Murano just had lots of electrical problems, when in fact it's just the main ground cable. This is the cable that goes from the negative terminal on the battery to the transmission. We are not sure the exact reason for its common failure in the 2006 Murano. It may be due to corrosion, or bad engine mounts. If an engine mount is bad, it will allow the engine to move around more than it's supposed to, causing a "thump" noise when you step on the gas, especially from a stop. When the engine moves too much, it can pull on the cable, and cause it to break. Not always of course, but it can happen. The first items to fry when this cable breaks are the ignition coils and the ECU, so make sure this cable is in good order before replacing the ignition coils, or the new coils will burn up almost immediately.
