2005

Pay attention carefully because the 2005 Lancer uses two different engines, and the ignition coil packs between the two engines are not interchangeable. The 2.0L only requires two ignition coils while the 2.4L uses four individual ignition coils. We have both types of coils at an amazing price.

Ignition Coil For 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer

2005 Mitsubishi Lancer Ignition Coil Packs

The two engines used in the 2005 Lancer do not use the same ignition coils. The 2.0L uses two ignition coils. Each ignition coil has a spark plug wire connected to it to deliver the spark to the other cylinders. The 2.4L uses four independent ignition coils. When ordering, there is no need to order 4 ignition coil packs for the 2.0L engine as it only requires 2. The 2.4L needs 4 coils. As these parts age, they ten to fail no too far apart from each other, and it is usually most cost effective to replace all of the ignition coils on the engine at the same time. Not only because the bundle of coils is cheaper, but also the time it takes to go back an re-diagnose the problem. If you're like us and don't mind grabbing your handy OBDII scanner to find a misfire, then purchasing one ignition coil can work, especially if you are on a tight budget. Keep in mind you will spend more money and a little bit more time over the long run doing this. We have these parts for much less than your local store, and we offer a lifetime guarantee as our parts have a great track record of reliability. We purchase several hundred to several thousand of the same type of parts, allowing us to get crazy prices and forward these savings on to our customers.

Diagnosing a Bad Ignition Coil in 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer 2.0L and 2.4L

The 2.0 and 2.4 are pretty similar when it comes to finding the misfire. The 2.4L has four ignition coils that can trigger a P0301, P0302, P0302 and P0304. The 2.0L coils sit on cylinder #2 and #4. The spark plug wire on cylinder #2 coil connects to cylinder #3 and the cylinder #4 coil spark plug wire connects to Cylinder number one. If coil #2 is faulty, you will see a P0302 and P0303 at the same time and if coil #4 is faulty, you will see a P0304 and P0301 at the same time. If you own the 2005 2.4L Lancer, then each coil is independent and will trigger a misfire code for that cylinder if it fails. If you want to find out for sure if the ignition coil is bad, you can move it to another cylinder and re-scan. Be sure to start and drive your 2005 Lancer to allow the ECU time to identify a new misfire location so you don't get a false reading. If the misfire code follows the ignition coil, then you have found the problem. If the misfire code does not change, then you may have a different problem, but the good news is that you didn't spend money unnecessarily. Our goal it to save you money not just on the parts, but on the entire process. Not to mention we allow a full 2 months to return any product that is unused (aside from warranty) because we understand that a misdiagnosis can happen from time to time.
