2005 Mercury Mariner Igntion Coil

2005 Mercury Mariner Ignition Coil Packs

The 2005 Mercury Mariner uses 2 different engines. A 2.3L 4 Cyl, and a 3.0L V6. Both of these engines use individual coil on plugs which are recommended to be replaced in full sets. This means that the V6 uses 6 ignition coils, and the 4 Cyl uses 4 ignition coils. The only problem with replacing all of them at the same time is that these parts are quite expensive for most people. Most in town auto parts stores and dealers will charge around $50 for just one ignition coil, making it anywhere from $200 and up to replace the ignition coils in the 2.3 Mercury Mariner, and over $300 for the 3.0L V6 Mariner. We have full sets of 4 and 6 ignition coils priced low enough to blow your mind away. This doesn't mean that we sell a cheap or inferior product. We don't get our prices low by cutting quality. We do it by purchasing large volumes of coil packs at once. In many cases, we purchase 500 or more ignition coil packs for your 2005 Mercury Mariner at once! This allows us to get a true wholesale price, and pas these savings on to you. On top of all of this, we offer free how-to advice to help you save money on the diagnostic and the repair as well. We aren't an auto shop, but we have many mechanics who work for us happy to give out advice.

2005 Mercury Mariner Misfire Symptoms

A bad ignition coil is quite common with these vehicles, and the symptoms on these are more obvious than other vehicles. A misfire will feel like the engine is running rough without full power. You will certainly feel the skipping that lots of other Mariner owners describe. This is usually followed by a check engine light. This can be easily diagnosed with a basic OBDII scanner. Typical misfire codes are P0301 through P0306. You can find out for sure if it is a bad ignition coil by swapping the presumed bad ignition coil over to another cylinder and checking if the misfire code follows the coil that was moved. If you are unsure of the location of each cylinder, see our helpful image for the V6 Mercury Mariner and Helpful Image for the 2.3L 4 Cyl Mariner to have a better understanding.

Replacing Ignition Coils On Your 2005 Mercury Mariner

Replacing ignition coils for the 2.3L 2005 Mariner is quite a simple task. The 4 ignition coil packs are located right on the top of the engine and are removed with a 7mm bolt. Anybody can change these, even with no automotive experience. For the 3.0L V6, it's more work as the intake manifold is covering coils Number 1,2, and 3. This job can also be done easily for someone with basic automotive knowledge. While it may look intimidating to remove the intake manifold, it's not a hard task. To do it, the throttle body, EGR and various vacuum hoses need to be removed. Remember, this intake manifold is designed to be serviced, so removing it is not a special task like in other vehicles. Also keep in mind that the 2005 Mercury Mariner had PCM computer issues which can cause the ignition coils to fail prematurely. There is a small possibility that the PCM computer needs to be replaced along with the 6 ignition coils. We have only heard of this issue with the 3.0L V6. The PCM is not a part that is supposed to fail, and we can recommend a few places that repair the PCM. Just give us a ring if you need help. Remember once again our goal is to save you money.
