Besides high quality discount ignition coils for your 4.6L V8 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis, we also have lots of great information on how to fix your 2004 Grand Marquis from the cylinder diagram, to our how-to misfire diagnostic. We want to save you money on the entire process, not just the ignition coils. And if you are not a "do it yourselfer", we would still like to give you information so you are armed and ready when you walk into the mechanic shop. We are mainly a do it yourself type of website, but we know  many people will still take their 2004 Grand Marquis into the shop. Often times we hear of horror stories where our customers get charged 2-5x more than this should cost. We want to help bring that down.

2004 Mercury Grand Marquis Ignition Coil Packs

The 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis ignition coil packs can be very expensive if you buy them one at a time at a local auto parts store. When one fails, and the rest are several years old, it's best to replace all 8 at once. Here at Araparts, we have single ignition coils, and the full set of 8 for prices that are hard to match. The ignition coils in your grand Marquis use copper internal windings. There are many aftermarket brands on the market that use aluminum windings. The part that makes this difficult is that you are not able to tell just by looking at the outside of the ignition coil if it uses the proper materials. We took it a step farther and cut one of our ignition coils in half to show you that we are true to our word. This is why we offer a lifetime warranty on our products. The warranty we offer covers the ignition coils themselves and all shipping back and fourth should you need to use it. This is good for as long as you own your 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis. If you have a misfire in your Grand Marquis, and are not sure what the cause it, we can help you out with our free diagnostic information.

2004 Mercury Grand Marquis Misfire Diagnosis

The first thing you will want when doing this is an OBDII scanner. If you don't own one of these, then get one. Online, these are the price of a couple of cups of coffee ($10-$20). Owning one of these will surely pay for itself sooner than later. Especially considering the average most mechanics charge for a diagnostic is $100. Once you have your scanner, plug it into the OBDII port on your grand Marquis. For the 2004 model year, this is located underneath the dashboard in the driver's side foot area. Turn the ignition to the ON position. The engine should be off and the lights on the dashboard should be on. After plugging your scanner in, it will read the PCM computer, and give you a code. If you have a misfire, you will see a code from P0300 all the way through P0308. P0300 is random misfire, P0301 is Cylinder 1 misfire, etc. If you have a P0300, you may not have a bad ignition coil. Bad ignition coil packs will usually trigger a specific cylinder. This is the first way this device can save you money. Many Grand Marquis owners tend to just throw parts at the problem hoping to fix it. If you have a P0300, then you know it's not a bad ignition coil. If you have a P0304, then it could be. From here you can swap the ignition coils over to another cylinder, start the engine to give the PCM time to identify the new misfire location and re-scan. If the misfire follows the ignition coil, then you know for sure you have a bad coil pack.
