2002

If your 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis has a misfire, you have come to the right place. Our high quality aftermarket ignition coils are built to last, unlike many other brands. We offer a real lifetime warranty, good for as long as you own your Grand Marquis. These cars come with individual coil on plugs, which means there is one ignition coil per cylinder. As they age, and began to fail, it's best to replace all 8 old coils at the same time. If you need help finding the misfire, we have some useful how-to guides below that are made to save you money.

Ignition Coil For 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis

2002 Mercury Grand Marquis Ignition Coils

The 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis uses  a 2v 4.6L V8. This engine has independent ignition coils. As they age and began to fail, it's generally recommended to replace all 8 at the same time. This is recommended for old ignition coils because they tend to fail within a similar time frame unlike newer ignition coils. You may be able to get away with replacing just one if they have been replaced within the past couple of years. These ignition coils at the local auto parts store are very pricey, running from $40 all the way up. At Araparts, our goal is to save you money on the entire process when repairing your 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis. This is why we have so much useful how-to information right here. Of course, you can visit our how-to section, but we offer quick tips like how to find the misfire, or typical symptoms of a misfire. We even tell you which tools are needed. In the case of your 2002 Grand Marquis, you will need at least 2 different length extensions (one short and one medium) and a 7mm socket to remove the bolt holding the ignition coil pack down.

2002 Mercury Grand Marquis Misfiring

If you are dealing with a pesky misfire issue, we can help you save money on the diagnostic with information. First things first, if you have a check engine light on, or flashing, then this is a good thing. Why? Because you can simply plug in an OBDII scanner to find out what's going on with your Mercury Grand Marquis. It will spit out a code. If it's misfiring, you'll see something like P0302, P0304, etc. This tell you which cylinder the misfire is coming from. From here you can swap the bad coil pack to another cylinder and re-scan to see if the problem follows the ignition coil or not. If you are not sure which cylinder is which in your 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis, then check out our cylinder diagram for Grand Marquis. If you do not have a check engine light one, there is still a way to scan for misfires. This can be done using an OBDII scanner with Mode 6 function. Mode 6 will allow you to see what the PCM computer is seeing before it turns a check engine light on. In many cases, the 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis will misfire, but not show a check engine light, making it difficult to identify where the misfire is coming from. Check out our Ford how-to section and you will see the guide right on the top.

Mercury Grand Marquis Ignition Coil Replacement

Replacing the ignition coils in your 2002 Grand Marquis may take about 1-2 hours, but it is a very straight forward job. The ignition coils will come off with a 7mm bolt, and the fuel rail does not have to be removed. We usually recommend removing the debris that builds up around the ignition coils to prevent any of it from falling into the spark plug holes, and into the engine. Compressed air would be the best, but not everybody owns a compressor. For many people a rag will do just fine.
