1998 Mercury Grand Marquis Ignition Coil

1998 Mercury Grand Marquis Ignition Coil Packs

The 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis uses an ignition coil on plug system. This means that there are 8 individual ignition coils that sit right over each spark plug. The most common part number out of many is DG508. As these ignition coils fail, they tend to fail within a short time frame from each other. Replacing all 8 ignition coils is the best thing to do if all of the coils are old. The replacement of these in the 4.6L V8 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis takes about an hour and a half for a beginner and 30 minutes for someone who knows their way around the Ford 2v 4.6L V8. All you need is a 7mm socket, ratchet, extension, and a swivel socket (to make things easier). The only problem is the price of the ignition coils. These run from $40 all the way up to $100 for each ignition coil. We are here to solve this problem of expensive ignition coils due to markups. We have the entire set of 8 for just the price of 1 in many cases. We don't do this by cutting the quality down. We do this by purchasing several thousand ignition coils at the same time, and offering these directly to you, cutting the middle man out. Our ignition coils are built to the same standards as the OE Motorcraft coil packs, and we have a long reputation and lots of reviews to prove it. On top of all of this, we offer a lifetime warranty, good for as long as you own your 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis.

1998 Mercury Grand Marquis Ignition Coil Replacement Cost

This will depend on if you take it to an auto repair shop or not. If you do, this will range from $500 all the way up to $1,200. This job is not a very difficult one. It looks hard to change the coil packs, but it is very straight forward. The first thing you will want to do is get yourself an OBDII scanner if you don't already have one. This will help you to find out why the check engine light in your 1998 Grand Marquis is on. If you have a misfire, you will get a code ranging from P0301 (Cylinder 1 misfire) through P0308 (Cylinder 8 misfire). You can also get a code P0300 which is a random misfire and usually not bad ignition coils. If you get a code P0302 for example, you can try moving the ignition coil over to cylinder number 3, resetting the PMC computer and driving until the check engine light comes back on. If the new code is P0303, then you know for sure that your 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis has a bad ignition coil. This is much better than throwing parts at your Grand Marquis.

1998 Mercury Grand Marquis Misfire No Check Engine Light

The 1998 Grand Marquis PCM computer will record all misfires, but will not turn on the check engine light if it does not misfire a certain number of times. The problem with this is that these misfires can be felt by the driver, and you cannot find out what the problem is. The (cheapest) solution to this is purchasing an OBDII scanner with Mode 6 capabilities. Mode 6 allows you to view what the PCM computer sees before it turns on the check engine light. Check out out How-to section for cool videos and tips on exactly how to use Mode 6.
