2002

The 2002 Mazda Tribute has 2 different engines and they both use 2 different kinds of ignition coils. The 2.0L 4 cylinder uses a single coil pack, and the 3.0L V6 uses independent coil on plugs. As these fail, they can be pricey, but at Araparts.com, we work hard to bring you quality parts at a much lower price than any local store. On top of this, we offer a lifetime warranty which is good for as long as you own your Mazda Tribute.

2002 Mazda Tribute Ignition Coil

2002 Mazda Tribute Ignition Coil Packs

The 2002 Mazda Tribute V6 uses 6 ignition coil on plugs. If you have made your way to this website, you most likely have already been turned off by local auto parts store prices. Araparts is all about solving this problem. The most commonly used part number for the ignition coils on this vehicle is DG500. It is best to replace all 6 ignition coils at the same time to prevent having to do the same job more than once. Araparts is committed to excellent customer service, and just making our buyers feel welcome. We have experienced the hole in the wall shop feeling where it feels like the auto parts people don't even want to deal with you. We are enthusiastic about helping our customers not only find the parts they need, but save money on the entire process. The ASE certified mechanics that work for us will be happy to help you in any way possible to save money. We give out useful tips such as where to purchase an OBDII scanner, how to find a misfire with or without a check engine light on, and all in all just avoiding paying the $100 diagnostic charge at the mechanic shop.

2002 Mazda Tribute Misfire Symptoms

If your Mazda Tribute is misfiring, you are not alone. This was a common problem with many of the 3.0L V6 Mazda Tributes. There is an issue where the PCM computer is known to damage the ignition coils on this particular Mazda (Same with the Escape and Mariner as they are the same vehicles). While we don't sell the PCM, we have recommendations for awesome places who rebuild them at a much lower cost than any dealership item. Of course the PCM doesn't fail every single time (some say it does). There are times you may have just a regular ignition coil failure, and the symptoms are quite obvious. You will immediately notice your engine running rough with a skipping feeling. It may also feel like it's putting along as you try to accelerate. With this is usually a check engine light that is either on or flashing. If it is flashing, this means that the misfire is heavy, and it needs to be repaired soon.

2002 Mazda Tribute Ignition Coil Replacement Process

The number one thing that scares most Tribute owners away from doing this job is simply opening the hood and realizing that there are three ignition coils underneath the intake manifold. The intake manifold may look difficult to remove, but it's not. it's designed to not be too difficult to remove. You just remove the air box, throttle body, EGR Valve, and the vacuum hoses that are connected to it. Then you simply remove the manifold bolts, and it will come right up. The front three ignition coils are extremely easy to remove. They are fully exposed as soon as you open the hood, and they come right off with any 7mm socket or wrench. If you decide to replace the spark plugs at the same time, make sure that they are pre-gapped or properly gapped as too large of a gap can cause the ignition coils to work harder and fail prematurely.
