Ignition Coil For 2005 Ford Five Hundred

Ignition Coils For 2005 Ford Five Hundred

The 2005 Ford Five Hundred uses a 3.0l V6 with 6 individual ignition coils. As these coils age, they tend to fail within a short period of time from each other. We carry the full set of 6 for just a little more than the price of one at the local store. We are able to do this by buying a large quantity at once and selling direct to our customers. This doesn't mean that Araparts has poor quality coil packs. This means that we just do a volume discount. We always find the best quality aftermarket suppliers. The 2005 Ford Five Hundred used the DG500 ignition coils (no relation there, seriously!). The DG500 coil has a straight rubber boot with no angles, just like the picture above. Three of the ignition coils in the Ford Five Hundred are easy to reach immediately, while the back three are underneath the intake manifold. This may seem like a very difficult job to do, but it is not that hard actually. We have a write up on how to do this, and you might be surprised that it is not a big undertaking. We want our customers to save as much money as possible. Anybody with basic mechanical experience can do this job.

2005 Ford Five Hundred Rough Idle, Runs Poor

If this is the case, you most likely have a misfire. For this 3.0L V6 the ignition coils were a common problem, and another strange issue was the PCM (powertrain control module) failing and buring the coils up. Many dealers and mechanics mention to check if the PCM is operating properly before replacing ignition coils because if you replace the coils, and the PCM is faulty, the new coils will get burned up by the PCM again. If you are trying to figure out what the culprit is with your 05' Ford Five Hundred, an easy way to do it is by swapping a coil from a misfiring cylinder to another cylinder, and checking if the code follows. For example, if you have a code P0301 (Cyl# 1 misfire) swap the #1 coil with the #2 coil. Rest the computer first, and drive the car until the service engine light comes back on. Once this happens, rescan the service engine light to see what the code is. If it is now P0302, then you will know for sure that the igntion coil is your problem. If the code remains as P0301, then you have another problem, but have just narrowed the problem down.

Replacing The Ignition Coils Yourself in Your 2005 Ford Five Hundred

If you are thinking of taking it to a shop, and you have worked on cars before, STOP. Here at Araparts, we are do it yourselfers, and we want to help you save money by doing it yourself. This job may seem like a lot of work but it's not. The intake manifold is designed to be easily removed for service. While changing the back three firewall side coil packs isn't as easy as changing the front coils, it is not a hard task. Check out our how-to section to see what's required. This engine is shared with the Ford Escape from this generation, so you will see the other vehicles the guide is useful for as well.
