Standing in front of the vehicle, on the left hand side the cylinders are 1,2,3,4 (front to back) and on the right hand side 5,6,7,8 (front to back). If there is a misfire on Cylinder #2 for example, you can swap the #2 and #1 coil and reset the computer. Drive your truck until the check engine light comes on again and re-scan. If the misfire code follows the ignition coil, then you will know it is the ignition coil. If the misfire stays on the same cylinder, then the problem may be something else.This is a sure way to tell if you have a bad ignition coil without throwing parts at your F150.
