2006 Ford Expedition Ignition Coils

 

The 2006 Ford Expedition uses the DG511 Ignition Coils. It was only available with the 3 valve 5.4L V8. As these ignition coils age, they tend to fail within a short period of time from each other. Prolonged driving in your Expedition with a misfire can cause damage to your catalytic converter. We have heard of many owners driving thousands of miles with a misfire and have reported no problems with other parts, but we recommend fixing the misfire as soon as possible. The 2006 Ford Expedition uses 8 individual DG511 coils. These have straight rubber boots unlike the previous generation Expedition with the curved boot DG508 ignition coil. The 2006 Expeditions are very notorious for misfires, and bad ignition coils. They are also known for broken spark plugs from a bad design, making it necessary to do this job while the engine is warm. Replacing all 8 Ignition Coils in Your 2006 Ford Expedition

 

As the ignition coils fail in your Expedition, they tend to fail within a short period of time from each other (usually a few months, or even weeks sometimes). There are many benefits to replacing all 8 coils. The first is the savings on the full set. Whether you buy locally or online, the set is going to be much cheaper than buying singles. Of course online is just a lot cheaper period, you get the idea. Let's not mention the time and labor required in having to diagnose and replace each ignition coil one at a time. These ignition coils do not have an estimated lifespan, but there are many factors that affect the life of them. One big factor is humidity.
