Ignition Coil For 2002 Ford Expedition 4.6L V8 & 5.4L V8

2002 Ford Expedition Ignition Coils

The 2002 Ford Expedition 4.6L V8 and 5.4L V8 share the same ignition coils. The DG508 ignition coils were the only ignition coils used in this year Expedition. These ignition coils are some point will need to be replaced. It happens to most 2002 Expedition owners, and other Ford vehicles that use the same engine 4.6 and 5.4 V8 engine. Replacing these ignition coils is not a vey difficult task, but the cost of getting them is high. Many dealers and auto stores take advantage of the high demand and jack the price up to $100 per coil. Yes, and you need all 8. This is too unrealistic of a spending amount for most people. At Araparts we strive to make getting quality parts affordable. Our ignition coils are surprisingly low priced, but the same or better quality than what you'd find at your local parts store often times. Not only do we want to help you save money on the part itself, but we also want to help you save money on the diagnosis, and the actual repair itself.

2002 Ford Expedition Misfire Symptoms

There are 2 different kind of misfires. One is mild. You feel is here and there. The ignition coil is still functioning, but misfiring occasionally. The other misfire is a completely dead ignition coil. The dead ignition coils is very easy to find. Simply scan the check engine light for codes and you can find out quickly what the issue is. The mile misfire can drive many owners crazy. A lot of times, owners can feel these misfires, but there is no check engine light to tell them what is causing the issue. Using a Mode 6 scanner, we can easily pull up these phantom misfires in your 2002 Expedition to find out what is going on before the check engine light turns on. Mode 6 allows you to trace down those pesky misfires that are enough to bother you, but not enough to turn on the service engine light. Many Expedition owners report feeling the misfire mainly while accelerating, or towing, and it is either very light or non existent while cruising. They describe this as bouncing or sputtering. When the coil packs in your 2002 Ford Expedition fail, you may not see any physical signs. A lot of times the epoxy resin (the black glass looking stuff) can crack causing the spark to arch out.

2002 Ford Expedition Diagnosing a Bad Ignition Coil Important facts

When the computer records a misfire, it stores it and keeps it for later viewing by you, the person fixing it. Many owners use a good method of swapping ignition coils over to another cylinder to find out for sure if they have a bad ignition coil. This method does work, but when using this method, make sure to do one thing: reset the computer/PCM!  This can be done with the OBDII scanner or by unplugging the battery for 1 minute. If the misfire is not constant, simply swapping the coil over is not enough for the computer to see the misfire. Remember, if it is misfiring occasionally on Cylinder #3, and you swap the coil to Cylinder #1 and scann too soon, it will still P0303 for Cylinder number 3. It did not have enough time to see the misfire occur on Cylinder #1, so be sure to give the computer some time to recognize the misfire on the other cylinder.
