Ignition Coil For 1999 Ford Expedition 5.4L V8

1999 Ford Expedition Ignition Coils

The 1999 Ford Expedition uses coil packs for the 4.6L V8 model, and coil on plugs for the 5.4L V8 model. The 4.6L coil packs are very reliable, easy to diagnose, and less expensive to fix. The coil on plug set up was just a better design, at the expense of the repair costs. When one of the ignition coils in the 1999 Expedition 5.4L V8 fails, the rest of them are not far behind. All 8 coils must be replaced at one if they are original, or over 7 years old and start going bad. You can't just change one at a time unless the coils aren't very old. Old ignition coils in the Expedition tend to fail within a few months apart from each other. It's not worth it to diagnose the problem over and over to keep changing the same part. We offer the aftermarket DG508 ignition coils at prices that simply blow people away. By far, our most frequently asked question was "why are your coil packs so cheap?". This is a common and very valid question. After being exposed to ignition coils for $50 and up, seeing an entire set of 8 coils for the cost of just 1 is just suspicious. At Araparts, we leverage the power of online bulk sales. We buy a large volume of these parts to get them at the lowest price. Many of the ignition coils we purchase come from the same place as the big name brands, only without the brand on it. We also back our ignition coils with a lifetime warranty, which is good for as long as you own your 1999 Ford Expedition

Using Silicone Dielectric Grease on 1999 Ford Expedition Ignition Coil Change

Silicone dielectric grease is incredibly useful when installing new ignition coils. It aids to seal out moisture, and helps in installing and uninstalling. Silicone dielectric grease can also be used to stop arching on older electrical transformers. You would put the silicone dielectric grease on the bottom of the inside of the rubber boot. This is where it meets the spark plug. We include a 2.5g packet of dielectric grease, which is just enough to be used as recommended. Make sure not to use too much grease in the connectors as it can short it out. We also don't recommend grease on the 12v primary connection to the ignition coil This is a low voltage connection, and too much dielectric grease can suppress this.

1999 Ford Expedition OBDII Misfire Codes

If your 99' Expedition is misfiring, and  there is a service engine light on, then you will have one or more of the following codes:

P0301
P0302
P0303
P0304
P0305
P0306
P0307
P0308

The last number in each of these codes represents the cylinder number the misfire is happening at. From here, you can do many different tests including swapping the coil packs and rescanning to see if the code follows the coil pack. You can get an OBDII scanner for under $10 online these days, and we would recommend every single vehicle owner to own one, whether you know how to work on cars or not. These can save you and many other Expedition owners money when it comes to repairing your Expedition. Simply walking into the mechanic shop armed with knowledge is just priceless.
