Ignition Coil For 1997 Ford Expedition 5.4L V8

1997 Ford Expedition Ignition Coils

The 1997 Ford Expedition came with 2 different V8 engines, and these engines used two different style of ignition coils. The 4.6L V8 of this generation used two coil packs that were connected to spark plug wires. The 5.4L V8 used individual coil on plugs. Keep this in mind when ordering. Many people get this confused. When the ignition coils in the V8 began to fail, they tend to go out within a short time frame from one another. This is especially true when they are older. You can get away with replacing just one ignition coil if the others have been replaced recently, but when they are around the 7 year old mark, it's best to just change the full set. The ignition coil used in the 5.4L Expedition for the 1997 model year was a common problem. So common that the number one selling ignition coil in the country is the coils for the 1997 Expedition 5.4L V8 (DG508). Don't lose confidence in  your Expedition just yet. They have been around for long enough for aftermarket suppliers to lower the cost of the parts.

Cost of Ignition Coils For 1997 Ford Expedition

The coils for the 4.6L V8 were not so much of an issue an they didn't fail often. The Coils for the 5.4L V8 however can run up to $100 each. Yes, that's $100 each. We hear of customers telling us of the amount they get quoted, and even we get shocked. We are able to sell the full set of 8 quality ignition coils for the 1997 5.4L V8 Expedition for less than the price of one of these $100 ignition coils. We don't do this because we buy cheap low quality parts. We buy the same quality parts you get at the local auto parts stores, just in much higher volume so we can get the special price and pass those savings on to our customers. In fact we purchase from some of the same exact places that the local parts stores use. The only difference? The brand. We are so confident in the quality of our ignition coils for the 1997 Ford Expedition that we put a lifetime warranty on them which covers the product, and the shipping back and fourth for as long as you own your Expedition. Our ignition coils are built with copper internals, just like the original equipment parts. We also include a packet of dielectric grease to make the installation smoother. Dielectric grease also protects the spark plug, preventing moisture from entering.

Keep on reading if you'd like to save several hundred to several thousand dollars here, because we have a lot of experience not just selling these parts, but also in working on these vehicles as well. There is an issue with these that we like to call "phantom misfires". This is when you get a misfire, but there is no check engine light. this makes diagnosing the problem difficult because you cannot scan for codes when there is no check engine light.....or can you? Yes, there is a way to find misfires in the 1997 Expedition 5.4L V8, even if there is no check engine light on. This can be done using a mode 6 scan tool. This can be purchased for around $50 online starting. Sure, $50 might seem like a lot, but hang in tight! This is going to save you several hundred dollars and several trips to the dealer. When your 97' Expedition misfires, it records every single misfire. Yes, every single one. It will not turn on the service engine light until it misfires a certain amount of time. In mode 6, you can find these misfires to pinpoint the cause of th misfires. Check out our how-to article and video to find out step by step on getting this fixed for a little amount of money as possible.
