2003

The 2003 Ford Expedition used the 5.4L V8 engine and the 6.8L V10 engine. Each engine uses one ignition coil per cylinder. As these fail, it becomes expensive to change each one at a time. We have the entire set of 8 or 10 for an unbelievable price. Not to mention our quality is the same or better than what you would find at your local auto parts store. We also offer FREE how to advice to save you money on the entire process, and not just the parts. Keep reading below to learn about Mode 6 diagnostics (misfire, no check engine light) for the 2003 Ford Excursion V8 and V10.

2003 Ford Excursion Ignition Coil

2003 Ford Excursion Ignition Coil Replacement

The 2003 Ford Excursion uses the DG508 ignition coils in both the 2v 5.4L V8 and the 2v 6.8L V10 engines. If you are here because of local ignition coil sticker shock, then you've come to the right place. A frequently asked question we heard often times is "why are your coil packs so much cheaper than the ones at the store?". This is because the local store may carry 8 to 10 on hand for your Excursion, while we carry thousands on hand. This allows us to get the exact same or better quality part at a much lower cost. We then pass this savings on to you and the rest of our customers. Many want to save money on ignition coils, but don't want to have to deal with an ignition coil failure just a few months down the road. Araparts brand ignition coils are manufactured to the same specifications at the original equipment, and we make sure that the quality remains consistent. We offer a lifetime warranty as we are confident in the quality of our aftermarket products. We are not just here to save you money on auto parts. We want you to save money on the entire process. This is why we include so much how-to information on our website. We even include quick and extremely helpful diagnostic information right in this section including OBDII and Mode 6 diagnostics. Keep on reading if you have no idea what this is.

2003 Ford Excursion Misfire, But No Check Engine Light. What Could It Be?

If you have come this far, then you must be interested in saving money on diagnostic information for your '03 Excursion.  First things first, we are going to get a regular diagnostic out of the way. If you have a check engine light on, that's a blessing. The reason why is you can plug any OBDII scanner in, and find out why your check engine light is on, allowing you to quickly find a solution. With the 2003 Excursion and the rest of the 2v Fords, they tend to misfire while the engine is put under a load (acceleration, towing, etc) and do not show a check engine light. This can drive anybody crazy not being able to find out what's wrong with their excursion. This is where OBDII Mode 6 comes in. Ford was one of the few companies to do this back in 2003, and many owners and even lots of mechanics are unaware of this. Modern vehicles fully utilize this function, but Ford started early. A cheap Mode 6 scanner starts at around $50, and believe us, it will pay for itself many times over. See our guide on how to use Mode 6. It's a lot easier than most of us would expect!

The tools you will need for this job are:

-7mm socket to remove ignition coil pack bolt

-Different length extensions

-Swivel socket (makes thins easier)

-Anything to remove the debris around the ignition coil if you plan on changing the spark plugs while you're at it.
