If your 1999 Ford Excursion is misfiring, and you are looking for quality aftermarket ignition coils (not just the low quality coil packs) you've come to the right place. We have a full set of 8 or 10 lifetime warranty coil packs for your Excursion at incredible prices. We also offer a lifetime warranty, good for as long as you own your '99 Excursion. This warranty covers shipping both ways. If you need help finding the misfire, read below. We share some diagnostic information that makes finding problems easy, but is not well known (Mode 6 OBDII - yes, this was available in the 1999 model year Excursion).

1999 Ford Excursion Ignition Coil

1999 Ford Excursion Ignition Coil Replacement

The 1999 Ford Excursion came with 2 different engines. A 2 valve 5.4L V8 and a 2 valve 6.8L V10. Both of these engines shared the exact same DG508 ignition coil with the angled rubber boot. Ignition coil pack failure on these engines was a common problem that Ford had in this era. When these coil packs start to fail, it is either $50 or $80 per coil at local auto part stores and dealers. Buying 10 coils at these prices is too much on many people's wallets. We have the full set of 8 or 10 ignition coils at just the price of 1 in many cases. We strive for quality aftermarket parts that last for years to come, and not coils that will fail a few months down the road. On top of this, we offer a lifetime warranty on the aftermarket DG508 coils we have for the V8 and V10 Ford Excursion. The Excursion is a very large vehicle, and the last thing you'd want to do is drive it with a misfire. This can easily get you fuel economy as low as 5 mpg for the V10 when you should be getting between 10 city and 15 hwy mpg (not towing). We want owners to save money on the parts, and not spend upwards of $1,000 on these.

1999 Ford Excursion Ignition Coil Replacement Cost

If you take you Excursion to a shop, for the V8, this can run from $600 to $1200, and for the V10, this can run $800 to $1,500. Yeah, that's simply way too much for this type of job. We can help you do this for much less, even if you have basic automotive experience. Let's start with the diagnostic. This is what gets most owners. Often times, owners will get a misfire, and no check engine light in their Excursion, leading them to believe that they can't do an OBDII diagnostic. This is far from the truth however as the PCM computer in the 1999 Excursion (both V8 and V10) records every single misfire. With a Mode 6 OBDII scanner, you will be able to view which cylinder is misfiring, and how many times it misfired. This will allow you to easily find out if you have a bad ignition coil. From here you can simply swap the ignition coil from the misfiring cylinder to another cylinder to see if the OBDII error code follows the ignition coil or not. If it follows the coil pack, then you know for sure that you have a bad ignition coil. if it doesn't then at least you have narrowed the problem down to fuel injectors, wiring, or another sensor. See our guide on Mode 6 diagnostics for Ford vehicles.

Replacing the ignition coils in the Ford Excursion is a straight forward process. The only hard part is that there are 10 coils, and the Excursion usually sits high up, so you will be leaning over to get to the back coils number 5 and 10. The ignition coils are held on with a 7mm bolt. We recommend different length extensions, and a swivel socket to make things easier The fuel rail does not need to be removed to get this job done, even though it looks like it's in the way. As soon as the ignition coil is unbolted, you will be able to move it over and around the fuel rail.
