2008 Ford Edge Ignition Coil

2008 Ford Edge Ignition Coils

The 2008 Ford Edge was known for the PCM issues that burned the coils up. There are 6 individual ignition coils in the 3.5L V6. Each of these coils sits right on top of each spark plug. When these coils fail, they must be replaced as a set. As they age and began to fail, they usually go bad not to far apart from each other. These coils can get quite expensive, and we are here to save you money, from the parts to the diagnosis, and even the repair itself.

Replacing all 6 Coils in My 2008 Ford Edge Necessary?

It is industry standard to replace all 6 ignition coils at the same time if they are old. If you replaced them recently, or the vehicle is newer, you can get away with replacing just one coil, but most of the time, this is not the case. Remember that the ignition coils all wear in the same vehicle, at the same time, and just like bulbs, when one fails, the others are likely to go soon as well. If you need help replacing, check out our how-to section for tips and tools needed for this job. If you live in a humid region, then you will be replacing your coil packs much sooner than someone who lives in a state like Arizona. While the 2008 Ford Edge did deal with ignition coil issues due to the PCM, there are many of these that have PCMs that have no issues, and just need a simple ignition coil replacement. If you do end up needing a PCM replacement, we are happy to help you find a solution that doesn't cost anywhere near $1,000. Just reach out to us and we will do some research for you.

2008 Ford Edge Symptoms of A Misfire

You will certainly feel the engine running rough while trying to accelerate. It may feel smooth when cruising with a slight feeling of a misfire. If there is an occasional misfire, you will feel the power surge once or twice while driving. This usually can be felt while accelerating, under mid to 3/4 throttle. When you realize that your Edge is misfiring, find out as soon as possible why it is misfiring, and fix the issue. We have come up with a way to save on ignition coils, we can help you save money on the PCM (if needed) and we can even help you on the diagnosis and repair job itself. Check out our how-to section. Getting your Ford Edge back on the road should cost several thousand dollars. There are many shops that would be happy to charge thousands of dollars to get this job done, and it doesn't cost thousands of dollars. We have seen PCMs from reputable dealers (VIN programed, etc) for under $300, and we would be enthusiastic to find a way, ANY WAY to keep our customers from spending tons of money on coil packs and a PCM. Also keep in mind that if your spark plugs have a gap that is larger than what Ford calls for, this can stress the ignition coils and shorten the life of the coils drastically, so keep this in mind when doing a regular spark plug tune-up.
