2004 Acura TL Ignition Coils

2004 Acura TL Ignition Coil Packs

2004 was the first year the third generation TL was released. The engine was slightly improved, but it still shared many of the same characteristics of the second generation TL. Because this is the ignition coil section, we are going to talk about the ignition coils for the third generation. First off, they are 100% interchangeable with the second generation Acura TL. These coils are the pencil or coil on plug style. They have a pencil shape, and there is one ignition coil per cylinder. They sit directly over each spark plug, and are very easily accessible. When ordering through Araparts, you will also get a free 2.5g packet of silicone dielectric grease which helps to keep moisture away and helps with removal of the ignition coil to replace spark plugs. Remember to use spark plugs with the proper 0.044 gap. Most spark plugs these days are pre-gapped, so you should be fine. Spark plugs with a gap too large will cause the ignition coil to work harder, and fail prematurely. Finding a misfire in your 2004 TL can be easy if you own an OBDII scanner. These tools can be purchased for a very low cost these days and will certainly save you money and time over taking it to a friend or to the shop to have a scan done. Many shops will charge from $50 to $100 just to look at your Acura TL. Even if you don't work on your own car, being able to walk into the mechanic shop armed with knowledge is priceless, and many mechanics also appreciate customers that are slightly knowledgeable about their vehicles.

2004 Acura TL Misfire Diagnosis

To find out why your 2004 TL is misfiring, hook up your OBDII scanner to the OBDII port underneath the dashboard on the driver's side. The ignition has to be in the ON position, and the engine must be OFF. Once you plug your scanner in, it will read, and give you a code ranging from P0300 (random) all the way up to P0306 (cylinder number 6 misfire detected). Once you get the code, locate cylinder number 6. Once you identify the cylinder location, move the ignition coil over to another cylinder, reset the ECU with your OBDII scanner or by disconnecting the battery for one minute. This allows the ECU to re-read the misfire, and identify the new location. Not doing this can give you a false reading. If the misfire code follows the coil pack that was moved, then you know that the ignition coil pack is bad. This will prevent you from "throwing parts" at a problem and potentially wasting money. Why gamble on fixing your TL? While we are not a mechanic shop, we are mechanics, and we have ASE certified customer service representatives (who still do side jobs) who can help you as much as possible to save money. Our goal isn't just to sell you some ignition coil packs for your TL. We want you to save money and time on the entire process from diagnostic to repair. This is why we provide as much valuable information as we can.
