This ignition coil set is for the Toyota (and GM) vehicles with the 1.8L engine. The engine code is 1ZZFE. This excludes the high output models that use the 2ZZFE which is the high output version of the 1.8L engine. This is easily identified by the XRS or GT badge to identify the submodel. This An ignition coil (also referred to as coil pack, coil on plug/COP, coil over plug) is a crucial part of your ignition system. Ignition coil is a miniature power transformer, which converts the 12v in your vehicle electrical system into tens of thousands of volts. This will send the voltage to the spark plug, and ignite the fuel. Ignition coils wear out over time. Over the years, high and low temperatures, humidity, and even bad grounds and electrical problems can cause ignition coils to fail, or not perform at full capacity. This can cause a misfire, also referred to as hiccups or surging. Because the ignition coils wear in the same environment, it is usually best to replace old ignition coils all at the same time, and save money on time and labor. Other causes of ignition coil failure are washing the engine bay and humidity buildup underneath the hood from a rainstorm.
The Toyota style ignition coil is a commonly replaced item in most of the Toyota vehicles, including the Corolla, Matrix, MR2 Spyder, and Celica GT. Toyota also had a partnership with GM, so the 203-2009 Pontiac Vibe and the 2000-2002 Chevy Prizm 1.8 also had the same 1zzfe 1.8L single overhead cam motor, which shared the same ignition coil.
