2004 Ford F250 Ignition Coils

Ignition Coil Packs For 2004 Ford F250

If you own a 2004 Ford F250, listen up closely. 2004 was a year that Ford introduced the 3v engines to many vehicles in their lineups. The 2004 Ford F250 still uses the 2v engine, which means you will need the DG508 coils (angled boots). This goes for both the 5.4L V8 and 6.8L V10 engines. It wasn't until 2005 that the F250 got the 3v V8 and V10. 2004 was the last year Ford used the 2v engine. They updated the design to improve overall performance, and solve the spark plugs blow out issues that plagued the 2v Ford V8 and V10 engines. When the coil packs fail in your F250 truck, and they are around 7 years old or older, then they will need to be replaced in sets. Old ignition coils burn out like headlight bulbs. Not too far apart from each other. A spark plug blowout can also be a cause for replacing the ignition coil. In this case, we have single coil packs for a low price as well. If your F250 is misfiring, you can easily identify whether you have a bad coil pack, or another issue with an OBDII scanner.

Diagnosing a Misfire in Your 2004 Ford F250

The OBDII scanner is a must have for every F250 owners. The dealerships will charge up $100 or more just to look at your truck. Imagine if they needed to go further into the diagnostic? At Araparts, we want to help you save money, while getting the job done right. A misfire in the 2004 F250 (Both V8 and V10) will feel like your truck is skipping a beat. The misfire is mainly felt while putting the engine under a load. This means accelerating, towing, driving uphill, etc. Cruising at highway speed may still feel smooth. You might be able to feel your truck misfire while cruising, but not as much as if your were accelerating. You can also get a check engine light with misfire codes ranging from P0301 through P0310. The last number is the cylinder that is experiencing the misfire. You can simply swap the coils over to another cylinder to find out if there is an ignition coil, or another issue causing a misfire in your 2004 Ford F250.

2004 F250 Misfire Feeling, No Service Engine Light

This is a very common issue that F250 owners experience. This happens when there is a misfire, but it doesn't happen enough to turn on the check engine light. Good news is that the PCM still records all misfires, and these can be viewed using an OBDII scanner with Mode 6 function. These start at around $50 online, and while this may seem expensive, compare it to a simple diagnostic of usally $100 or more. Many shops will charge a lot more for Mode 6 as well. See our how-to section to find out how to use Mode 6. Go to the Ford section, and you will see a article and video on using mode 6 in your F250.
