Escape

The Ford Escape uses individual ignition coils, or 1 coil per cylinder. As these parts age, they fail, and to make it even more difficult there is no lifespan. When they are several years old and one fails, it's generally recommended to replace all of them at the same time. These can be pricey at local stores. We are here to solve that problem. We have single coils and full sets at incredible prices. Let us know what year and engine your Escape has, and we will guide you to the right parts. As always, you can call us at (916) 585-6835 if you need help with fitment.

Ignition Coil Replacement for Ford Escape

The Ford Escape uses individual ignition coils. Both the 4 Cyl and 6 Cyl have the coil on plug set up. We have heard from many customers and shops that a malfunctioning ECU (main vehicle computer, also known as PCM) on the Ford Escape is a common culprit of ignition coil failure. Many times we heard recommendations to replace the ECU if an ignition coil fails, otherwise you will experience more coil failures. While we are not exactly sure how common this is, we definitely have heard of more than one case. While we don't think it is necessary to replace the ECU every time you replace ignition coils(this would be incredibly expensive and inconvenient!), we do recommend testing the pin-outs in your ECU (VIA repair manual specs) to make sure that it is operating properly. Only the first generation Escape had this issue. The later generations did not seem to have this type of issue. When finding the right parts, make sure the select the proper year and engine size for your Escape so our website can guide you to the right parts.

Replacing All of the Ignition Coils in Your Ford Escape

One thing that is for sure is that if the coil packs in your Escape are old, and one fails, it is best to replace all of them at once. Old ignition coils are known to fail within a short time frame from one another. Not only will this prevent you from spending more time and money diagnosing a misfire more than once, you will also save money on the bundle. The three back ignition coils underneath the intake manifold on the first generation 3.0L V6 may seem intimidating, but the intake manifold is not too difficult to remove for someone who is mechanically inclined. See our how-to section to find out what is required for this job. Replacing the ignition coils in the 2.3L 4 Cyl Ford Escape is very easy as they sit right on top of the engine, and are immediately accessible. Common error codes are P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, P0305, and P0306. You can use an OBDII scanner to scan the ECU and find out what the issue is. These OBDII scanners are under $20 online, and if you shop around, you may even be able to find one for $20 at the local store. These scanners can save you a lot of time and money when it comes to diagnosing problems in your Ford Escape. If you really want to get detailed in diagnosing, use an OBDII scanner with Mode 6 function (non-continuous monitors).
