Ignition Coils For 2005 Ford E150 Van

2005 Ford E150 van Ignition Coil Packs

The 2005 Ford E150 Vans have a common problem with the ignition coils failing. If you have a misfire, don't worry. This is a common problem and it does not cost an arm and a leg to fix. That is you diagnose the problem yourself. The 2 biggest troubles come from the diagnostic (finding what the problem is) and the cost of the parts. Many local auto parts stores charge $50 and up for just one ignition coil. As far as the auto parts goes, we have that part covered. It's what we specialize in. We have the full set of 8 quality ignition coils for the price of 1 at the local auto parts store. If you are wondering why our coil packs for your 2005 Ford E150 are so cheap, it's because we buy large quantities, and sell direct. This allows us to get the same quality parts at a much lower price. We also include a 2.5 gram grease packet. Silicone dielectric helps to keep moisture away, and help with removing the ignition coils. The DG508 ignition coil is shared between the 4.6L and 5.4L V8 engines.

Replacing a Coil Pack on Your 2005 Ford E150

Remember that the rear ignition coils can be accessed through the service compartment inside the interior. This allows you to easily reach through to the back ignition coils. Many people forget about this, and think that they must change the rear coils from underneath the hood. Also, if you have not figured out exactly why your check engine light is on, don't jump straight to conclusions just yet. Yes, a misfire due to a bad ignition coil in your 2005 E150 van is the most common, but there are other reasons why your 2005 Ford E150 van can misfire such as a bad fuel injector, bad spark plug, wiring, or other sensor or mechanical issue. The easiest way is to plug an OBDII scanner in and scan for codes. Once you get a misfire code, P0304 for example, go to that cylinder number (number 4 in this case) and swap it over to cylinder number 3. Once you do this, reset the PCM, and drive your E150 van until the check engine light comes back on. If the new code is P0303, then you know for sure that the ignition coil is bad. If it remains P0304, then you have another problem, but just narrowed the problem down. Another issue that E150 owners experience is a misfiring feeling, but no check engine light on. This is where Mode 6 come in. You will need an OBDII scanner with Mode 6 capabilities. These start at around $50 online, but are worth every single penny. Trying to diagnose a misfire without this information will take a lot of time, and cost a lot of money just throwing parts at it. When you plug your Mode 6 scanner in, just follow the directions on the screen, then head over to non continuous monitors, and test ID $53 (test ID is for 2005 model year see our how to section to see which test ID is proper for your year E150 before doing this).

Cost of Ignition Coil Replacement For 2005 Ford E150 Van

There are a few things that can influence cost here. If you take your Ford E150 to a mechanic, replacing all 8 coil can run from $500 to over $1200. If you bring the parts in, the labor can run from $100-$200, which is a lot more do-able. If you do the work yourself, you can do this for under $100. The biggest cost in this entire job is the ignition coils, and potentially the labor depending on if the mechanic is familiar with Mode 6 in the E150.
