TEC Ignition Coil install for Honda/Acura

If your Honda/ Acura uses the internal (inside the distributor) ignition TEC coil, you can follow this simple guide to replacing the ignition coil. The only special tool is a timing light because we recommend removing the distributor. You will not need a timing light if you choose not to remove the distributor. Don't know how to set the timing on a Honda/Acura? See below to learn!

The ignition coil can be removed without removing the distributor, but we highly recommend to remove the distributor for easier access as the power and ground to the ignition coil become very brittle as they age. It is easy to damage these wires by pulling or twisting them by accident when working in a tight spot.

Step 1: Disconnect the battery!

Step 2: Remove the distributor bolts and remove the distributor with the spark plug wires connected (unless you're doing a full tune-up). Remember to place a clean rag so the oil doesn't leak all over

Step 3: Remove the distributor cap from the distributor

Step 4: There are 2 wires connected to the coil with screws. Remove the screws and carefully move the wires out of the way. Be sure to keep note of which is power and ground. Make sure to use the proper size screwdriver as these screws may be brittle.

Step 5: Remove the two screws holding the coil in, and remove the coil.

From here, just put it all back together. When complete, set the timing at what Honda/Acura recommends for your model.
