How to Replace the Ignition Coils in a 2006-2011 Honda Civic Hybrid 1.3L

Tools needed:

-3/8 inch drive ratchet
-10mm Socket
-2 inch extension (to make it easier to remove rear coils)

A little to know about your Hybrid before doing this:

The 2007-2011 Civic Hybrid 1.3L has a 4 cylinder motor which uses 8 spark plugs, and 8 individual ignition coils.

  1.  Remove the plastic cover that has the words "IMA". This cover just pops off. 4 of the ignition coils are easily visible. The 4 rear coils can also be seen if you peak your head over. They are all easily accessible.
  2.  Unplug the connctors. Just squeeze the tab and carefully pull it off of the ignition coil.
  3. The ignition coils are held in with 10mm bolts. Remove the bolt, and remove each coil.
  4. Install the new coil, and you are done!

Dielectric grease:

If you use dielectric grease, it it to be used on the inside of BOOTS of the coil (where it meets the spark plug). Use a thin amount. Overdoing it with the dielectric grease can suppress the spark, and cause a misfire. Do not use the grease in the top 12v connectors.
