Make Sure it Fits! These coils have a 2 pin connector.

Compatibility:

  • 2000-2005  Lincoln LS 3.0L V6  (2 pin connector as pictured)
  • 2000-2002  Jaguar S-type 3.0L V6 (2 pin connector as pictured)
  • 2003 Jaguar S-type (2 pin connector Vin ending in M45254 and lower- more info below)

More Information:

The 2003 Jaguar S type uses two diffent type of ignition coils. The last 6 letters/numbers of the VIN number help to identify which S type models use which ignition coil.

Example: 2003 Jaguar S type with the last 6 digits VIN ending in M45254 or lower letter/number will use the 2 pin coils. M45255 or higher letter/number will use the 4 pin coils.

One more example: Vin number ending in L45643, and M45215 are both lower than M45255, and will use the 2 pin coils.   A vin number ending in M45354 is higher than M45254, and will use the 4 pin coils. N09354 is also higher than M45254, and will use the 4 pin coils. Remember, it goes by letter first, then the number.

Need the 4 pin coils?

Another way it to remove the cover and look at the coils. The 2 pin coils are round on top and the 4 pin coils are square, or boxy looking on the top of them. The coils are covered with a shield to protect them from humidity and the environment. These covers can be removed fairly quickly by someone with limited mechanical knowledge and experience.

An ignition coil (also referred to as coil pack, coil on plug/COP, coil over plug)  is a crucial part of your ignition system. The ignition coil is basically a miniature power transformer, which converts the 12v in your vehicle electrical system into tens of thousands of volts. This will send the voltage to the spark plug, and ignite the fuel. Ignition coils wear out over time. Over the years, high and low temperatures, humidity, and even bad grounds and electrical problems can cause ignition coils to fail, or not perform at full capacity. This can cause a misfire, also referred to as hiccups or surging. Because the ignition coils wear in the same environment, it is usually best to replace old ignition coils all at the same time, and save money or time on labor.

Other causes are washing the engine bay. and rain. The DG528 style ignition coil is a commonly replaced item in most of the Jaguar S types and Lincoln LS cars. In some instances of minor misfiring on Lincoln LS and Jaguar S type, the check engine light will not illuminate. This is because the PCM does not illuminate a check engine light unless the misfire is more than 2.3% of the firing time. It does however still record the misfire. We can help you find these for FREE in our how-to section.

Checking vehicle grounds, wiring, and other components such as the vehicle computer (also referred to as the PCM, ECU, or ECM) can also prevent repeated failure of ignition coils and save hundreds, or even thousands of dollars in repairs.
