Ignition Coils For 2001 Ford Thunderbird

The 2001 Ford Thunderbird comes with one engine. That is a 3.9L V8. This engine uses eight individual ignition coils that happen to fail over time. Replacing these can seem expensive when you see the $50-$80 price tag for each ignition coil, but at Araparts, we have soles this problem. We are able to offer the same quality ignition coils for much less than you would see at any local auto parts store or dealer. Purchasing the full set of 8 ignition coils will save you money whether you do it online or locally. Plus it can also save you time in having to go back in and do the job again. The are exceptions however. The only exception is if your ignition coils have been replaced recently, and one fails, you can get away with replacing one coil. Most of the time, owners are unsure of the age, or state that the coils appear original. In these cases, it's best to replace the old ignition coils.

Symptoms of a Bad Ignition Coil in Your 2001 Ford Thunderbird.

If your Ford Thunderbird has a slight misfire, that is a symptom of a bad ignition coil. How does a misfire feel in the Thunderbird 3.9L V8? It feels like a hiccup, or hesitation. This can happen occasionally and especially under load (aka acceleration, uphill driving, etc). Owners commonly report shaking in the city, and the engine running smooth when they are cruising at highway speed. If the ignition coil is completely dead, then you will feel the misfire at all times. It may seem lighter at cruising speeds, but you will still be able to feel it. An easy way to find if you have a bad ignition coil is with an OBDII scanner. By using one of these low cost devices, you can see why your check engine light is on. There are also many times that there is no check engine light, but the owner can still feel a misfire. These are called phantom misfires, and is common with Fords of these years. You see, the computers were lenient in triggering the check engine light as soon as it sees a misfire, however they recorded each misfire. They will not turn the check engine light on until it misfires more than 2.3% of the firing cycle. Turns out you can find these misfires stored in the computer with a mode 6 OBD II scanner. See our how-to section to find out more.
