2008

The 2008 F250 has 2 different ignition coils. Brown boot (DG521) and black boot (DG511) ignition coils. If you are not sure which ones your 2008 Ford F250 uses, read below to learn more. The only difference between the 2 coils is that the brown boots are slightly longer (due to the 3v head redesign for 2008) and brown in color.

2008 Ford F250 Ignition Coil Packs

Pay attention closely with the 2008 model year F250 because it uses 2 different styles of if ignition coil packs. The DG511, and DG521. If you have the DG511 ignition coils, the number on the top of the coils will start with 3L3E or 3L3Z, and if you have the DG521 ignition coils, the numbers on the top will start with 8L3Z. Ford updated the design of the head due to the infamous broken spark plug issue that the early 3v engines suffered from. By the way, this goes for both the V8 and V10 2008 F250s. If you physically look at the coils under the hood, you will be able to see the color of the boots. As these coils age, they tend to fail within a short time from each other. The local auto parts stores have these ignition coils for $50 - $100 each. Yes, that is for each ignition coil. you will need either 8 or 10 depending on your engine. This is beyond what most of us would like to spend on just ignition coils, so we went to work on sourcing quality coil packs for a low price. In order for us to get the prices that we do, we buy in large volume (usually thousands of DG511 and DG521 coils) and pass this savings on to our customers. Our ignition coils are high quality aftermarket parts with a lifetime warranty. Not to mention, we ship for free, and we allow up to 2 months to return an item, and we don't charge restocking fees. We not only want you to save money on the parts themselves, but on the diagnostic, and trouble shooting.

2008 Ford F250 Ignition Coil Installation

Installing ignition coils for your 2008 F250 is a straight forward process. You will be leaning over to replace the back ignition coils, but you will not have to remove the fuel rail to get these replaced. If your truck has extra accessories, like an air compressor, then you may have to remove that in order to reach the front ignition coils. If you own the earlier model 3v engines (black boot DG511 coils) then we recommend doing this job while the engine is warm to prevent the spark plugs from breaking off in the cylinder head. There are kits made by Lisle (LIS65600) that will help you to remove the broken spark plug without having to remove the head (which requires lifting the body off of the frame). To find the misfire, you can scan the service engine light with your OBDII scanner and inspect the individual cylinder that is misfiring. Inspect the ignition coil, spark plug, fuel injector, and the connectors to determining the cause of the misfire. You can also swap the ignition coils to different cylinders to diagnose the ignition coils as well. If the misfire code follows the ignition coil, then you just found your problem.
