2003 Ford F250 Super Duty Ignition Coil For 5.4L V8 and 6.8L V10

2003 Ford F250 Super Duty Ignition Coil Packs and Diagnostic Help

The 2003 Ford F250 Super Duty uses 2 different type of gasoline engines. The 2v 5.4L V8 and the 2v 6.8L V10. Each engine shares the same exact DG508 ignition coils. The V8 had 8, and the V10 has 10 coil packs. If these ignition coils are many years old, and one fails, it is best to replace all of the coils at the same time. Old coil packs tend to fail like headlight bulbs; not too far apart from each other. It is always recommended to replace old and failing ignition coils in sets, rather than singles. The only problem is that the local auto parts stores and dealers charge an average of $70 for each ignition coil. This is simply too much for most people. Who wants to spend $500 or more on ignition coils. We have high quality coil packs with a lifetime warranty for much less than you would ever expect to see at any auto parts store. We do this by purchasing wholesale and selling sets (We also sell singles as well). This allows us to sell these at a much lower price effectively cutting out the middleman.

2003 Ford F250 Misfire Diagnosis

There are 2 different types of misfires that F250 owners experience. One is very simple and straight forward bad ignition coil pack. This will cause the engine to run rough and trigger a service engine light. One the service engine light is on, you can simply plug your OBDII scanner in the OBDII port (also called DLC - data link connector) and it will give you a misfire data trouble code (DTC). You will see something like:

-P0301 (Cylinder Number 1 Misfire Detected)
-P0302 (Cylinder Number 2 Misfire Detected)
-P0303 (Cylinder Number 3 Misfire Detected)
-P0304 (Cylinder Number 4 Misfire Detected)
-P0305 (Cylinder Number 5 Misfire Detected)
-P0306 (Cylinder Number 6 Misfire Detected)
-P0307 (Cylinder Number 7 Misfire Detected)
-P0308 (Cylinder Number 8 Misfire Detected)
-P0309 (Cylinder Number 9 Misfire Detected)
-P0310 (Cylinder Number 10 Misfire Detected)

A bad coil in the 2003 F250 can also set off one of these codes, but it's less likely to be a bad ignition coil. The letters are the cylinders in alphabetical order (A= Cylinder# 1):

-P0351 (Ignition Coil A Primary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction)
-P0352 (Ignition Coil B Primary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction)
-P0353 (Ignition Coil C Primary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction)
-P0304 (Ignition Coil D Primary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction)
-P0355 (Ignition Coil E Primary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction)
-P0356 (Ignition Coil F Primary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction)
-P0357 (Ignition Coil G Primary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction)
-P0358 (Ignition Coil H Primary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction)
-P0359 (Ignition Coil I Primary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction)
-P0360 (Ignition Coil J Primary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction)

An easy way to determine if you indeed have a bad ignition coil instead of something else would be to swap the ignition coil from the misfiring cylinder and swap it over to another cylinder. Reset the PCM in your 2003 F250 Super Duty and drive it around until the check engine light comes back on. If you don't reset the computer, it might still have the old misfire saved. This will cause confusion when trying to pinpoint the misfire.

2003 Ford F250 Misfire, But No Check Engine Light.

If you are getting a misfire in your 03' F250, but there is no service engine soon light, then you have what we call a "phantom misfire". You can feel it, but you can't find it because of no check engine light. There is a way to find these misfires in your 2003 Ford F250, and that is with a Mode 6 OBDII scanner. You see, the PCM in the 2003 F250 will still record the misfires, but it will not turn on the check engine light unless the misfire occurs more than 2.3% of the firing cycle. When using a mode 6 scanner, go into "Non Continuous Monitors" (also called "Diagnostic Monitors") and then select test ID "$53". From here, you will be able to see the cylinder numbers, and how many times each cylinder misfired.

OBDII Port in 2003 F250 Not Working?

This is common. Remember that the OBDII Port shares the 20A fuse #12 with the cigarette lighter, so if the OBDII port doesn't work, you can verify if it's the fuse quickly by checking the cigarette lighter. Here is the diagram of Fuse# 12. This is ONLY for the 2003 Ford F250 Super Duty.
