2000 Ford F250 Ignition Coils

The 2000 Ford F250 used one type of ignition coil, the DG508. Whether you have the 5.4L V8 or the 6.8L V10, they both use the same type of ignition coil. As these coil packs age, they tend to fail not far apart from each other. This means it's best to either replace all 8 or 10 ignition coils at the same time if they start to fail and they are old. We have the full set of 8 or 10 at prices that are hard to match. Replacing the ignition coils in your 200 Ford F250 should not cost several hundred dollars. Many stores price these ignition coils at $50-$100 each. We have the full set of 8 or 10 for just about the price of 1 coil (if not less). We can do this by purchasing several thousand coil packs wholesale and selling direct to our customers. This effectively allows us to keep the price down. We recommend to replace all of the coils if one fails, and the rest are several years old (usually around 7 years). This is because when one coil pack fails, the others are not far behind. It's similar to changing headlight bulbs.

How To Find a Bad Coil Pack in 2000 Ford F250

The 2000 Ford F250 can have different symptoms depending on what state the ignition coil is in. There is a completely non functioning coil packs (easy to diagnose) and then there is the occasionally misfiring coil pack, and no check engine light, which seems hard to find, but we have an easy (and low cost) way of doing it. We are going to start out with the hard way. This is when you have a misfire, but no service engine light on. The 2000 F250 PCM (powertrain control module/AKA main computer) records all misfires. We will say it again: The PCM in your 2000 F250 records ALL misfires. It doesn't always turn on the check engine light, and we personally think Ford tuned it to be way too lenient. With a Mode 6 OBDII Scanner (Starting at $50 online) you can see every single misfire that the PCM has recorded. The Mode 6 scanners start at around $50 online, but it is a whole lot better than going to the repair shop to have them do this simple procedure. You will spend at least $100 or more on the Mode 6 diagnoses at a shop. That's if you are lucky. This scanner can be used on all vehicles 1996 and newer. It can even come in handy if you own a new vehicle. Many owners can save themselves a trip to the gas station by simply knowing why their check engine light is on. Check out our how-to section to see our article and video on how to do this simple procedure.

The easy method in finding a bad ignition coil is pretty simple. If the coil is bad, and the engine is constantly misfiring, simply get ahold of any OBDII scanner. These can be found online for under $10. Simple plug the OBDII scanner in to find out which code your F250 is showing. You will get something like P0301 through P0310. You can simply swap the coil packs from the bad cylinders to another cylinder to see if the code follows the ignition coil. Make sure to reset the computer while doing this too!
