The 2007 F150 has 8 individual ignition coils. Sometimes these are referred to as Coil packs, or Coil on Plugs. The big concern with many 2007 F150 owners is the cost to replace these. Some dealers can charge up to $80 or $90 per coil! There is no need to spend that much on a single ignition coil. We have high quality aftermarket ignition coils for the 2007 F150 4.6L V8, and 3v 5.4L V8 for incredible prices. They come with a lifetime warranty, which is good for as long as you own your 2007 F150. The coil packs in the 2007 F150 are a straight forward replacement. You remove a 7mm bolt, and remove the coil. You may have to move it over to the side to clear the fuel rail, but they will come out with ease.

Should I replace 1 ignition coil or all 8 ignition coils in my 2007 F150?

Generally for this F150, we recommend to replace all 8. You can get away with replacing one however if the other coils are not very old (5 years or newer is our general guideline), but if you are not sure, or you know that they have never been changed, it is best to buy all 8. Besides not having to replace coils randomly, you can save a lot more on the bundle. Many owners experience more than one old ignition coil going bad within a short period of time. If your ignition coils have been replaced recently, you can get away with replacing just one, but this is usually not the case.

Common OBDII codes for a bad ignition coils are P0301 (Cylinder #1) to P0308 (Cylinder #8). Finding these misfires are not as difficult as you would think. If you have no check engine light, we have a how-to article to help you find the misfire. It's not as hard as you would think! Check out our how-to section for more info.
