Ignition Coil Replacement for your 2004 F150

The 2004 F150 V8 came with 2 different V8 engines. The 4.6L V8 and the 5.4L V8. The 4.6L V8 uses the DG508 style coils. These coils have a slight bend in the boot. The 5.4L V8 for the 2004 year uses the DG511 style ignition coils. These coils have a straight boot and the connector is angled just a little bit more in an upwards position the the DG508 style ignition coils. These parts start to wear out over the years. High and low temperature changes, humidity, and water from washing the engine can cause these to wear over time and not perform at full capacity. Because these parts wear at the same time, in the same environment, and in the same driving conditions, it is common practice to replace all at once if they are several years old. We sell complete sets of 8 ignition coils for your 2004 F150 at a significant discount. Continue to select the engine for your 2004 Ford F150 to see what all of this buzz is about.

Diagnosing a misfire in your 2004 F150

Misfires due to bad ignition coils in the 2004 F150 is a common occourance. There are many FREE ways to identify what is causing a misfire in your F150. If the check engine light is on, you will be able to use an OBDII scanner to scan the on board computer (PCM). If you don't own an OBDII scanner, you can purchase one for under $30 online, and some auto parts stores offer free scans. A code for a misfire would be P0301 (cylinder #1  misfire) all the way to P0308 (Cylinder #8 misfire). Once you identify where the misfire is, you can swap the coil to a cylinder that is not misfiring, and re-scan the truck (reset before re-scanning with scanner or by disconnecting battery for 2 minutes). If the misfire code follows the coil, then you know the coil is bad, if the misfire stays on the same cylinder, then it may be something else. When one coil fails and the rest are orignal or 7+ years old, the others are likely to fail soon as well. It's best to replace all 8 coils at once to save time and money on the bundle.
