Ignition Coils For 2004 Ford Explorer

The 2004 Ford Explorer has 2 different engines, and they both use 2 different types of ignition coils. Let's start off with the 4.0L V6. This engine has a single coil pack (modern distributor) with 6 spark plug wires connected to it. These fail occasionally, but are known for their reliability. Then we have the 4.6L V8. This engine is a 2 valve V8 with 8 individual ignition coils. The coils used in the V8 are the DG508 coils. These have a black rubber boot with a slight angle to it (you can't see the angle on the boot unless the coil in removed). As these coil packs get older, they tend to fail within a short period of time from one another. This usually happens around the 7 year or older mark. The best method to fix this is to replace all 8 coils at once. The only downside about this is the cost. These coils can cost up to $80 each at the local dealer, but these are not the true prices of this product. That is all mark up. We have high quality aftermarket coils priced low enough to where one dealer coil costs almost as much as 8 of ours. Does this mean our coils are crap? Absolutely not. We work with the highest quality suppliers that make high quality ignition coils with copper windings. We are so confident in our product that we offer a lifetime warranty on it.

Real Lifetime Warranty Coils

The first thing people want to know is if they can get a quality product. We constantly get asked "Why are your coils so cheap? Are they low quality". The answer is no. We focus on finding the best suppliers to manufacturer our products for us, and we put a lifetime warranty on them, which is good for as long as you own your vehicle. Each coil is checked before leaving the manfacturer. The warranty we offer also covers the shipping both ways, so you won't have to spend money to return any malfunctioning ignition coil (if that happens). We keep our defect rate for this product well under 0.5%, and we are well within that margin. We work together with the manufacturer to ensure that these products keep coming with consistent quality so you don't get stranded.

Replacing the Ignition Coils in Your 2004 Ford Explorer

The 2004 Explorer 4.6L V8 has 4 ignition coils on each cylinder bank. Replacing these ignition coils is a very straight forward job. It can seem hard to do this, but it is not. You will be hanging over the hood to reach the back coils, but there are no special tools needed for this job. Finding the bad ignition coils is an easy task with an OBDII scanner. If your 2004 Explorer is misfiring, there will be a service engine light on, and it will hesitate while trying to accelerate. All you do is plug the scanner in to find out which cylinder is misfiring. From there, you can swap the bad coils over to another cylinder to see if a bad coil is really causing your misfire.
