Ignition Coils for Chevrolet Silverado

If your Silverado is misfiring, you may have a bad ignition coil. The ignition coils in the Silverado are individual, yet still connect to the spark plug with a spark plug wire. Changing the ignition coils in your Silverado is quite simple. There are two different kinds of ignition coils for the Silverado. There is the square (Melco) and round (Delphi) style. If you need help finding out which ignition coil your truck has, we made a video on how to do it! Check it out in our how-to section. When one of these ignition coils goes bad, it is best to replace all 8 coils at the same time. This is especially true if the coils are nearing the 7 year mark or older. These ignition coils can be very pricey at your local auto parts store, and we are here to solve this problem We have the full set of 8 with a lifetime warranty for an incredible price.

Common Symptoms of a Bad Ignition Coil in a Chevrolet Silverado

One very obvious and common sign is a check engine light and a misfire code of P0301 through P0308. Without scanning the computer, other signs are a chugging engine under a load. This can also be described as a hesitation when towing, stepping on the gas, or putting the engine under a load. If you do not own an OBDII scanner, our best advice is to simply get one. These devices are under $20 online, and can literally save you hundreds or even thousands of dollars and time in the future. These can be used on all of your vehicles. The Silverado uses 3 different V8 engines, the 4.8L V8, 5.3L V8, and the 6.0L V8. These engines all shared the same exact ignition coils with the only exception being the difference between round and square ignition coils.  We recommend to not wait to fix your misfire. Prolonged driving on a misfire can damage the catalytic converter and cost thousands. While short period of driving on a misfire will most likely not cause any issues, it's best not to wait, because many owners get comfortable and drive months or even years on a misfire. We are here to save you money. Don't delay getting this fixed.

How to Replace the Ignition Coils in Your Chevrolet Silverado.

The ignition coils in the Silverado are actually very easy to replace. They sit on the top/side of the engine, and are held in with two 10mm bolts. You may have to lean over to change the back coils, but they are still not hard to access. If you need help, check out our how-to section to learn how to replace these ignition coils with ease. When it comes to identifying if you have the square or the round coils, we always recommend to open the hood and physically look at the ignition coils. While this may seem excessive, it is a lot easier than having to return a set of coils. The reason why we ask this is because many truck owners keep their work trucks for a very long time. There is a big trend in maintaining rather than replacing a work truck. Over the years we noticed that many trucks have had their engines replaced and there is no way to identify which kind of ignition coils is under the hood other than opening the hood.
